(he/him/his)
Max works with children, youth, and families on journeys of exploring gender identity and sexual orientation. In addition to holding space for exploring and processing identity related experiences, he supports clients experiencing a variety of mental health symptoms and concerns, navigating relationships and social situations, "coming out," and coping with other life challenges. Max uses a flexible approach that incorporates multiple therapeutic modalities and can involve individual, family, youth, or caregiver sessions to best suit the needs of each client. He aims to meet clients wherever they are at in their journeys, and support the direction they would like to move towards without judgement or pressure.
Some of the modalities Max draws from in his work include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative, Solution Focused Brief, Strengths-Focused, Music Therapy, and group work. Max has experience working with clients of diverse experiences, including those with diagnoses of depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. as well as clients who have ADHD, learning disabilities, sensory processing sensitivities, are Autistic or neurodivergent.
I so appreciate this opportunity for my child. I have, since he has started his transition, been looking for a therapist for him. I didn't have much luck in finding someone who was at the very least queer identified, working with kids, accepting new clients. But finding someone trans identified is really most ideal.
He has really connected well with you. He really does not openly speak to many people besides myself and it has been amazing to see him open up to you. He is usually really happy once the session is done and looks forward to each week. The sessions are making a huge difference to his anxiety levels and self confidence. Thank you again.
It takes time, but my son feels so comfortable talking to Max and opening up to him, and it takes a great deal of weight of his shoulders when he's able to do that. I'm hoping in time, we'll see some improvements in his self esteem, handling of his emotions, self confidence, that kind of thing.
Quarantine/Isolation is hard for so many, but especially for kids who already feel isolated from their peers and society because of their mental health struggles, gender identity, sexuality, etc. Having someone to confide in who understands at least some of what it is to be in his shoes has been so so good for him. Thank you so much!!
