Secondary Assessments for Gender Affirming Surgery
In Ontario, when applying for funding for genital surgery, you require two completed assessments. The primary assessment must be completed by a doctor or nurse practitioner, and the secondary assessment can be completed by a range of professionals including a registered social worker utilizing the guidelines set by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). I offer these assessments to new and existing clients.
Assessments generally take 1-3 sessions to complete. Regular session fee will be charged for these sessions, plus a $150 fee for completion of the written assessment and any communication required with the primary assessor.
When completing these assessments, the intention is not to increase barriers to gender affirming care, but to fulfill the requirements for funding approval, and provide a space to process decisions, plan care and supports, and prepare for the procedure.
